WHAT IS AN UNDERBASE?
An underbase is a layer of ink (usually white or light color) printed as a base on a dark shirt for other colors to sit on. It enhances color brilliance and is similar to using a primer before painting. The underbase, a high-opacity ink, is flash-cured before printing top colors.
Why use an underbase?
-
Color vibrancy: Underbase provides bright, soft-to-touch prints by using different mesh counts for underbase and top colors.
-
Color accuracy: Printing on a white base eliminates the influence of shirt color on top colors.
IS UNDERBASING REQUIRED?
It depends on the design and shirt color. Light-colored shirts may not require an underbase, while dark garments benefit from it. However, for a "vintage" or "soft hand" look, an underbase may be skipped, sacrificing vibrancy and color accuracy for a lighter print.
Keep in mind: Underbasing slows production and adds an extra color cost. But it is essential for vibrant colors on dark substrates.
WHAT IS A DIGITAL SCREEN PRINT?
Digital Screen Prints harnesses the power of advanced Direct To Film (DTF) technology, offering cost-effective, high-resolution printing, especially for vibrant or photorealistic designs. With no screen-making costs and a low minimum order requirement, they're perfect for smaller batches or items like tote bags, heavyweight tees, and fleece. While they deliver a soft touch akin to traditional screen printing, they might feel a tad heavier on lightweight tees.
